2020-21 - Autumn Term - God Loves Us All Equally
As part of our commitment to catch-up fopr any lost learning that might have occured over lockdown, school have used government funding to employ Coach Kyle and Mr Gaughan to work alongside our current TA's and teachers in providing lots of catch-up intervention for all of our children. The children have loved working with them.

Our class novels and books to match our topic have been chosen which will bring lots of enjoyment and excellent learning opportunities.
December 2020 - We filmed our Nativity and made a special video for parents to watch on the website!
November 2020 - Well done to our Year 5 & 6 children who came 2nd out of 12 schools in the interactive 'Mad 4 Maths' challenge.
We have had a big push on handwriting and presentation this year at school. Each class nominates 2 children for excellent handwriting and presentation a week and their work is displayed in the classroom and the school hall. We also have pen licenses and special certificates for children whose handwriting is consistenlty excellent!
Art in Class 3 - In preparation for the 'Jungle Book' unit of work, Class 3's visit from our artist Jo included lots of jungle art work using skills such as large scale collaging, colour mixiung on canvas, oil pastel work and painting in the style of Henry Rousseau.
Children across school took part in the 'Active Mile', organised by Mrs Sheridan, and competed against other local schools.
Year 6 pupils took part in the Mad 4 Maths challenge in November, organised by Mount Carmel.
Home Learning - as some of us have to self-isolate from time to time, work is provided for children at home that matches what is being done in class. Well done to our children and parents for keeping going at home!
Music - Charanga is proving a real hit across school.
The Rotary Club from Great Harwood visited school to present dictionaries to our Year 6 children.
Art in Class 5 - Jo visited school for the day to lead a Class 5 Art day in early November, linked to our topic of Diversity and Equality.
The way we plan English at St. Mary's ensures that there are lots of speaking and listening opportunities such as this phone call to the Gruffalo.
EYFS have enjoyed their dough disco activities!
Gift Boxes for the elderly - We made sure that links were continued with the elderly residents of Clayton-le-Moors by providing 50 boxes of food and presents for them on Christmas Day, accompanied by a letter written by the children. It was lovely to appear in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph for this.
Remembrance Day activities were carried out across school.
Charanga is now fully embedded in school and children are really enjoying learning to sing and play the various songs.

Accrington Stanley Shirt Giveaway - As part of their care for the community, all year 3 children received an Accrington Stanley shirt and goodie bag!
FUNDA have made a brilliant impression at school and now run the breakfast and after-school club as well as providing two days of P.E. for our classes. We also have FUNDA medal winners each lesson for children who have really shone with their effort and attitude.
In the lead up to Halloween, there was lots of fun to be had in school making toffee apples and creating pumpkins for a competition! We had an unbelieveable 94 entries! Well done to everybody!
Oct 2020 - Making Fairy Doors in Art & D.T. and displaying them in trees in the local park to cheer up the community during COVID-19 restrictions.
October 2020 - Inter school's competition. COVID-19 will not stop us making sure that every child in the school represents us in a sporting event before Christmas - this time, we just have to do things a little differently!
