Wendy Schofield - 'Family Liaison Officer'
We are extremely fortunate at St. Mary's RC Primary School to have Family Liaison Officer, Wendy Schofield, on our team. Wendy does an amazing job in supporting the families in our community. She is available at any time during the week.
Wendy works closely with the Headteacher and staff at school to focus on families who may need her assistance and is involved in TAF meetings and meetings with families in and out of school. Wendy has identified and referred several children to 'Young Carers' support and has helped parents access 'Adult Carer' support. She helps to monitor attendance and punctuality at school and has proven invaluable at identifying barriers that may exist between home and school. She is able to work with families to recommend referrals to support networks such as HARV, the local Food Bank and our School Uniform Bank where she has been able to source uniform for over 20 school families. Part of her role also revolves around helping parents to apply for various entitlements such as DLA, school nurse support or Free School Meals.
Part of Wendy's work has also focussed on emotional support with children in school as it is important to build up a relationship for when they might see her interacting with their family at home. She is very popular with the children and feedback from parents at school is always extremely positive as they really appreciate the 365 days a year, 7 days a week support that Wendy offers.
Wendy can often be found patrolling the streets of Clayton-le-Moors (in all weathers!) on route to her next family support visit and she also works from school for 1/2 days a week. Please say hello to her if you spot her and if you require her support at any time, please ring school who will set up a meeting where Wendy will be delighted to make your acquaintance!
Point of Light award winner - 2022!
We were delighted to learn that Wendy's dedication to the school and local community was recognised through a government 'Point of Light' award in February 2022. Well done Wendy!
